Volunteers

Our volunteers are valuable members of our team and play an integral part at Deer Lodge Centre. They come from diverse backgrounds but have one thing in common – a strong desire to make a positive impact on the lives our our residents, patients, visitors and staff contributing to our mission to making lives better.

Carole has been a volunteer at Deer Lodge Centre for 15 years sharing her musical talent and playing the piano at our Friday interdenominational services, during our hymn sing programs and other special events that we may have in the Centre. She has been told by residents that her music playing inspires them to face one more day with hope and courage. “I enjoy volunteering at Deer Lodge Centre as it gives me the opportunity to make a small difference in the loves of the folks in care.”

Each year our amazing volunteers donate their time and talent and approximately 18,000 hours throughout different areas of the Centre. They are engaged in meaningful activities and roles in patient care areas, non-patient care areas, fundraising and special events.

As a volunteer you will be offered a regularly scheduled shift in a specific placement area. Placements are determined according to your interests and availability as well as the Centre’s needs. Most of our placements are during weekdays but we do have some weekday evenings and weekend positions available.

We value the contributions and services our volunteers provide to enrich the lives of others and we will do our absolute best to ensure your volunteer experience is a positive one.

Highlighting:

Gift Shop Assistant Supervisor – provide supervision to gift shop volunteers, assist Gift Shop manager with tasks as required. Monday-Friday – Daytime. Flexible shifts.

Gift Shop Attendant – Monday-Friday – shifts 9:45am-1:00pm and 1:00pm-4:15pm

Meal Assistant – assist residents/patients with their meals as required. Monday-Friday – shifts-11:30am -1:00pm and 4:30-6:00pm

Front Entrance Greeter – provide directions to visitors needing assistance. Monday – Friday – shifts 9:00-12:30 and 12:30-4:00

Worship Service Escort – escort residents/patients from their units to and from the Worship Centre. Tuesday Service – shift 1:15-3:30pm and Friday Service – shift 9:45-11:30am.

Recreation – assist with recreation programs / friendly visiting / play crib / walks with residents. Shift times vary throughout the day.
