Specialized Dementia Care

The Specialized Dementia Care program supports people living with dementia who have more complex care needs. Our Special Needs Units (SNU) and Special Needs Behaviour Units (SNBU) provide safe and secure environments designed to support comfort, dignity, and quality of life for smaller groups of residents.

Each resident receives an individualized care plan created with input from the full care team. Staff work closely together to understand and monitor each person’s needs, support their medical care, and create a calm, respectful, and supportive environment.

These specialized units offer structured routines, privacy, and personalized attention. Our team provides compassionate care while encouraging residents to remain as independent as possible in a safe, engaging, and supportive setting.

Living Spaces

Every room in the SNU and SNBU is private, with ensuite bathrooms to ensure comfort and dignity.
Units feature spacious hallways with clear signage and murals to aid wayfinding and reduce exit-seeking behaviours.
Bright, inviting communal spaces encourage socialization and engagement.

Security & Staffing

Locked units with secure access require a code or key card for entry and exit. Higher staffing ratios ensure the residents receive personalized care.

Programming & Care

Behavioural support includes tailored programming for cognitive and emotional health.
Access to Tovertafel (Magic Table) Games that respond to movement, encouraging residents to engage in fun, stimulating activities that support cognitive function and hand-eye coordination.
Access to the Multisensory room which is a calm, specially designed space with lights, sounds, textures, and gentle movement that help residents relax, explore, and enjoy sensory experiences in a safe and comforting environment.
Beautiful murals provide visual stimulation and create a calming environment.
